This home known as 'The Jetty House' instantly become a nationwide favourite when featured on Grand Designs NZ!
When Patty and Geoff decided to build, they wanted to create a bolt hole with a story of New Zealand history, whilst keeping the home authentic, honest and in keeping with the environment. The architectural designer Frank Stanton, was briefed to design the home based on a classic kiwi boatshed design with 4 interconnecting pavilions that fits seamlessly on this outstanding Waterfront 3139m2 site.
The eclectic mix of New Zealand salvaged materials painstakingly sourced by Patty and Geoff begins with the impressive hardwood trusses in the Great Room, recycled from the historic Wellington Ferry Wharf. The walls through the house are a mix of bricks recycled from the 'Real Groovy' building in Auckland, shiplap from the Te Puna Hall and timber from the Whitcoulls building in Wellington. This presents a house that stands up to all the fun that comes with family running through. The labour of love is evident with the attention to detail, where Geoff has individually 'blued' the bolt covers while Patty has 'rusted' the front door to keep the industrial look running through the house.
A large moveable engineers work bench, sourced from Nelson, stands in the kitchen as the island with plenty of seating for family and friends while the meals are prepared between the large scullery and kitchen. Those meals can be enjoyed in the covered courtyard with the stunning framed views over the water and jetty. In addition to the main home, there is a 2 bedroom holiday home for guests to stay with its own bathroom, kitchenette and super large covered outdoor area.
There is so much more to this historic jigsaw puzzle and as Patty and Geoff would now like to move on to their next project, you have an amazing opportunity to call this unique masterpiece your own home.
